Traffic Light Bulletin on Occupations

By 13 June 2018August 19th, 2020No Comments

With the recent release of the Traffic Light Bulletin by the Department of Jobs and Small Business, the six monthly review of occupations is one step closer to finalisation. We can expect the release of the new Occupations List in July 2018.

The Traffic Light Bulletin provides recommendations on the proposed changes to occupations listed on the Short Term Skilled Occupations List and the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills Lists, used for visa applications under TSS and the Employer Nomination Scheme, among others.

The Bulletin recommends that 17 occupations, including many related to the arts as well as some technician roles, be completely removed from the list. If these recommendations are accepted, this would leave the negotiation of a Labour Agreement as the only option for Business Sponsors seeking to sponsor overseas employees in these occupations.

Three occupations are recommended for transfer from the Medium Term to the Short Term List, with only one occupation recommended for transfer the other way, thereby providing a pathway to permanent residence for footballers!
