New Minister for Immigration

By 4 September 2018August 19th, 2020No Comments

Following what can be described as a tumultuous period in politics, Australia’s new Prime Minister, The Hon Scott Morrison MP announced a Cabinet re-shuffle on 26 August 2018.

The Hon Peter Dutton MP retains the Department of Home Affairs portfolio although loses control of Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs which goes to The Hon David Coleman MP. On his new appointment, the Prime Minister commented that Mr Coleman has a keen understanding of the many different backgrounds and the many different issues that need to be managed to ensure that Australians who have come from so many backgrounds get that fair go.

Although the Immigration portfolio is outside of Cabinet, the appointment has been broadly welcomed by business as a signal of the Prime Minister’s intention to support a pro-immigration agenda.
