Electronic Visa Records: No visa labels

By 6 November 2018August 19th, 2020No Comments

In September 2015, the Australian Government ceased placing visa labels in all passports.

Australian visa labels were replaced by electronic records linked to the applicant’s passport. This electronic record facilitates the online checking of visa details and conditions by the visa holder, airlines, employers, Government agencies and others, using a web-based service call VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online).

As the visa is linked to the passport used at the time of application, it is imperative that the Department of Home Affairs is notified if a visa holder is issued a new passport after the grant of the Australian visa. Failure to do so prior to undertaking any overseas travel will result in delays and may cause problems with online checking.

It is also important for visa holders to keep a copy of their visa grant letter, as it contains important information about their visa, including the visa grant number which is needed for VEVO access. Some visa holders opt to travel with a copy of this letter, although this should not be necessary as long as passport details are kept up to date.

Ajuria Lawyers can assist with such notifications to the Department of Home Affairs. Please contact your advisor for assistance.
