The government announced earlier this morning the final details of the Global Talent Scheme Pilot to run for 12 months which will commence on 1 July 2018. The pilot is designed to attract highly skilled workers from around the world who will have a new visa pathway into Australia.
The pilot scheme has been finalised after consultation with the industry, start-ups and businesses. Ajuria Lawyers was part of the consultation process and provided submissions to lower the salary
threshold from the suggested $180,000 pa. It is now $145,500 for established businesses and $80,000 for start-ups.
The scheme includes two streams – one for established businesses and one for start-ups. All businesses sponsoring workers to Australia under the scheme will need to demonstrate that they have been unable to source suitable individuals in the Australian labour market. Workers sponsored under the scheme will have access to a Temporary Skills Shortage visa and permanent residence after three years.
The actual regulations are expected to be released this weekend in time for commencement on 1 July but in the meantime, the following information has been provided:
